Govt to form cyber police unit: PM
The government is planning to form a separate 'Cyber Police Unit' considering the current context for safe cyber space and cybercrime. This is what Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in response to a written question by Faridunnahar Laili, Member of Parliament for the reserved women's seat, during the question-and-answer session in the National Parliament on Wednesday.
She said, a special clique, especially communal clique, war criminal clique and BNP-Jamaat are continuously spreading rumors on social media. A large part of them is located in different countries of the developed world. They are mainly spreading false and distorted news against Bangladesh and the current government through social media like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube.
Highlighting the government's steps to stop rumors and misinformation, the Prime Minister said, 24/7 cyber patrolling has been strengthened to prevent anti-government and anti-state propaganda, communal incitement and rumors, using social media; Appropriate legal action is being taken after identifying the rumor mongers. Awareness campaign has been continued through various social media. Information about the rumor is collected and informed to the concerned authorities to take necessary action.
She said legal action is being taken based on the information received regarding the rumors through National Emergency Service-999 and Cyber Support Helpline. Based on specific allegations and evidence, with the help of Interpol, the perpetrators of rumors, located abroad, are being identified and brought to justice.
Also, in response to the written question marked with star-1 of the Government Party Member of Parliament of Feni-1 Constituency, Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury, the Prime Minister said that digital methods have been introduced in the formulation, processing and approval process of development projects to fulfill the dream of Smart Bangladesh by 2041. PPS software has been launched on May 28 for digital processing of development projects of Planning Department.
